The Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired has announced that their annual Legislative Day will be held on April 12, 2006. After first meeting with Governor Doyle’s policy director for the Department of Health and Family Services and Chris Klein from Department of Transportation, the group plans to divide into two teams—one meeting with Department Public Instruction, and one to meet with the Department of Workforce Development Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. The group then will have a noon lunch with Rep. Gregg Underheim, Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, to thank him for supporting our issues over the years. At 1:00 the group will establish a home base in room 225 N. W. at the Capitol to meet with Kevin Kennedy of the Wisconsin Elections Board, followed by a meeting with Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager regarding consumer issues. AB 1142 will then be explored with Rep. Donna Seidel who has introduced a bill requiring accessible instructional media for institutions receiving only state funding. The final meeting of the day is scheduled with Rep. Pat Strachota, a freshman legislator from West Allis. The group plans to distribute a WCB&VI informational packet to each legislator. The day will conclude with a reception at the Inn on the Park for Senator Judy Robson to thank her for her support of our issues, especially with the school. The days events will conclude by 6:00 PM.
