Line up for the Start

Team O'Connor

Take one gorgeous late-summer day at a beautiful lakeside setting; add 108 cheerful golfers and many hard-working volunteers; and you’ve got a recipe for a very successful fundraising event!

Longtime friends of the Council Pat and Joan O’Connor sponsored the tournament. Numerous organizations and businesses helped underwrite other event-related costs.

The outing at Bishops Bay Country Club included lunch, a round of golf, a picnic buffet and reception.

Golfers participated in three hole-in-one contests, a chipping and putting contest, as well as other hole games. Rob Buettner of the Badger Association of the Blind & Visually Impaired generously volunteered at the Vision Challenge hole contest, where golfers tried to beat his stroke for a prize.

A golf outing raffle featured more than 30 groupings of prizes that included athletic, entertainment, food and beverage, health and fitness, office/business, and personal care items.

Deb DeNure of dbAssociates of Wisconsin won the $1,200 value Destination Kohler gift card.

While reception guests enjoyed a bountiful picnic buffet and dessert, Council President Chris Zenchenko and Executive Director Karen Majkrzak offered greetings and background on the Council and its mission and vision. They explained that proceeds from the golf outing would help the Council serve increased numbers of older adults who are experiencing vision loss due to Age Related Macular Degeneration.

Thanks to the generosity of several Council friends and supporters, the reception also included a live auction.

The 2007 golf outing increased sponsorships and resulted in $30,000 revenue after expenses. “Planning is already underway for a September 15, 2008 golf outing at Nakoma Golf Club,” commented Karen Majkrzak enthusiastically. “This new special event assists the Council in raising needed funds, and it helps us increase awareness of issues that impact the blind and visually impaired individuals we serve, as we make new Friends of the Council.”

Thank you to all who contributed to the success of Golf in the

Fall 2007!! We hope to see you again next year.
