LOW VISION SERVICES COMING TO DOOR COUNTY

The Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired will begin providing low vision services to Door County residents with financial support from the Door County Community Foundation.

"Our partnership with the Door County Community Foundation enables us to offer vision rehabilitation services to adults aged 60 and over who live in Door County," said Karen Majkrzak, Executive Director of the Council. "These services include low vision therapy, orientation and mobility training, activities of daily living classes and assistive technology classes."

The Council's certified low vision therapist and orientation and mobility specialist, technology trainer and rehabilitation specialist will offer services in both Northern and Southern Door County. Services will begin on site in late March and continue for four days each quarter through November 2006.

"Providing these important learning opportunities to low vision residents in Door County is a critical part of our overall mission of service," said Chris Zenchenko, President of the Council. "We are honored to work with all our new partners in helping residents overcome the many challenges faced by declining vision."

Kathy Lange-Novak, Manager of Outreach and Development, will serve as the coordinator of the Door County project. For more information, or to make an appointment, call Kathy at 1-608-255-1166 or 1-800-783-5213. You can also reach her through email at Kathyln@wcblind.org.
