Madison VistasThis is art of a kindergarten/first grade class from Lowell Elementary School. This lesson represents four weeks of work. In the first week, we talked about weaving. We had been talking about turtles and how they hibernate during our Wisconsin winters. We decided to weave a turtle and put it in one of our Madison lakes. After weaving the shell of our turtle, we were able to begin drawing the things that are familiar to us in Madison—the Capitol, houses, cars and bicycles. In the second week, we began to prepare for a printing experience. With yarn, we made printing plates of fish to swim with our turtle. While the glue was drying, we continued to draw our Madison Vista. During the third week, we made two prints from our printing plate. By this time, we knew we were going to exhibit our work at the offices of the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired. We took one last week to make our pieces as tactile as possible. Please touch our work! We framed each piece with soft yarn and put pebbles in the lake floor. You will be able to feel our weaving and the oil crayons with which we drew the Capitol. We hope you like our art. It is so nice to have a place to show what we learned in art class these last four weeks.
