Learning to make your web site accessible to persons with disabilities

HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND

A “digital divide” challenges many disabled individuals because most nonprofi ts and numerous business web sites are not yet accessible to them.
Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act extends accessibility requirements to Internet sites.

The Accessible Web Sites 101 workshop will help you meet ADA standards AND provide crucial connections for disabled individuals who rely on social service and public service organizations for employment and independent living.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

This six-hour workshop will teach you how to eliminate barriers to accessibility through web site design techniques, including:

  • use of color
  • choice of font types and sizes
  • page layout
  • labeling graphics
  • creating accessible forms

The class is facilitated through the Talking Communities online forum.

Upon completion of this workshop and online evaluation, all participants will receive a free best practices manual designed by our instructor and certifi cate of completion.

Instructor:
Betsy Gruba, Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired Technology Director, has taught numerous classes on Internet use for blind and visually impaired persons, and she is an expert on the ADA section 508 provisions for technology and communication resources.
